Self Defense - A Walk in the Park
Back in the good old days families used to go to city Prozac side effects state parks for a wide variety of entertainment and recreation. Parks were a big draw for picnics, cookouts, Frisbee games, softball, badminton, drinking, gossiping, and catching up-just all manner of fun-good clean fun. Back in the good old days! The big thing was you could always feel safe at a park.
Over the weekend, there was an article about a Colorado Springs man who wouldn't think of bringing his family to the park without his trusty firearm.
Assaults on the homeless who have taken to making city parks their home, speeding in the parks, shootings, crime-prone juveniles, drug deals, gangs, fights and prostitution have made city parks in Colorado Springs "family unfriendly" for sure. Many more would say downright dangerous-vaguely reminiscent of ten years ago.
In 1996 things got so bad in city parks that a Mobile Command Post roamed from park to park making the rounds to free car insurance quote a police presence. Park police officers and regular patrol officers were refinance my home parks in pairs to help rid those parks of unsavory elements.
To a large extent they were successful until......that's right you guessed it-budgetary cutbacks, a shift in emphasis and new responsibilities made patrolling parks a very low priority.
Police asked that neighborhoods get involved and start assuming more of the burden. They have Nanny and the Professor a great job but they can only go so far.
I am not picking on my beloved Colorado Springs either. You can change the name to virtually any city in the country-the problem is the same everywhere-some worse than others.
Now with more budget cuts on the horizon and gangs growing like wildfire, people who want to take a 'Walk in the Park' had better arm themselves with a pepper spray or stun gun to protect themselves and their family.
Please Note that even though pepper spray is legal in all 50 states, some states and cities have restrictions. Some states and cities have restrictions on stun guns. Check with Teayjhumu local police department. Literally thousands of police departments carry and use pepper spray and stun guns. Why wouldn't you?
